Every Tuesday in August, the Heritage Library will offer a three-course, fixed price dinner at Old Fort Pub, at talk by Major General Ormsby Mitchel, and a tour of Historic Ft. Mitchel.

Dates are August 4, 11, 18, and 25

Starting at 6:00 pm

$40 per adult/ $20 per child under 12

Speakers Series Celebrates 100 of the USMC Depot

PIHMS-logo   Beaufort, SC:  Over the next few months the Parris Island History and Museum Society will host a series of speakers and discussions on the history of Parris Island to commemorate the Centennial of training Marines on the Depot.

The series will kick off Thursday, July 30th at 6 pm with Dr. Larry Rowland and Dr. Stephen Wise discussing the history of Parris Island from the Native Americans-through today. This event will be held at the Shed on Parris Avenue in Port Royal. (Please bring lawn chairs for comfortable seating, limited chairs available.)

August 27th-6 pm – Discussion by the Santa Elena Foundation — Union Church-11th St., Port Royal. Hosted by the Historic Port Royal Foundation and Santa Elena Foundation

Sept. 10th-6 pm – Women Marines on Parris Island —   Union Church-11th St., Port Royal. Hosted by the Historic Port Royal Foundation

Sept. 15th-11AM – “Court Martial at Parris Island: The Ribbon Creek Incident”–Bluffton Branch Library, 120 Palmetto Way. Hosted by the Beaufort District Collection, Beaufort County Library

Sept. 24th-NOON – “Court Martial at Parris Island: The Ribbon Creek Incident” – hosted by the Beaufort County Historical Society

Oct.7th-6 pm -The Harbor Masters in Concert present Patriotic Songs — The Shed on Parris Avenue in Port Royal. (Please bring lawn chairs for comfortable seating, limited chairs available.)

Oct. 24th–11 am- Grand Parade–Parris Avenue followed by the premiere of a documentary “100 Years Making of Marines on Parris Island” — The Shed on Parris Avenue in Port Royal. The documentary will be shown at Noon, 1:15 pm and 2:15 pm.

These events are a collaborative effort with Parris Island Historical & Museum Society, Historic Port Royal Foundation, Beaufort County Historical Society, Santa Elena Foundation, the Beaufort District Collection of Beaufort County Library, and the Town of Port Royal.

Dear valued members, volunteers, and donors:

The Bluffton Historical Preservation Society presents “The Great Sea Island Storm of 1893.” Join local historian Fran Heyward Bollin at the historic Colcock-Teel House in Bluffton as she discusses the devastating storm and the ensuing recovery efforts by the Red Cross. This was the organization’s first hurricane response. The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 2pm. Admittance is $6 per person for BHPS members and $7 for non-members. Due to limited seating pre-registration is required. To register please call 843-338-6863 between 9:30am and 5:30pm Monday through Friday. I look forward to seeing you at the historic Colcock-Teel House.
