Re: Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival to Screen Film Juried Competition

Hilton Head Island, SC., USA: Jean F Guilleux, Arkhaios Film Festival founder, is pleased to announce the members of the jury for the 2nd Annual Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival to be held at Coligny Theater on Hilton Head Island on October 23-24-25. The jury is composed of :

Dr. Steven Smith Ph.D., Director of the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, College of Arts and Sciences, University of South Carolina. Jury President.

Dr. Rex Garniewicz Ph.D., President and CEO of the Coastal Discovery Museum. In addition to a career in the museum field, he has taught a wide variety of archaeology courses at IU, Butler University, and UCSD.

Dr. Karl Heiden Ph.D., retired Distinguished Professor of Anthropology at the University of South Carolina. He began his career participating in digs in South Dakota, the classic Mayan site of Tikal, the upper palaeolithic Abri Pataud in France, and led two brief expeditions to a mesolithic area in Thailand. He has written books on Ethnographic Film, Indonesian Cinema, and four editions of a textbook, “Seeing Anthropology. Cultural Anthropology Through Film”.

Fitz McAden, a native North Carolinian who was raised in Columbia, SC. He earned a master’s degree in journalism at Columbia University in New York. He worked for 42 years as a reporter and editor at newspapers in Florida and South Carolina, including The Tampa Tribune, The Miami Herald, The (Columbia) State and The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette. He was executive editor of The Packet and The Gazette for 19 years.

Lubomir Kocka, Slovak-American director, screenwriter, professor, and producer. He is an award-winning director with more than 30 years of directing experience, first and foremost in Slovakia, former Czechoslovakia. He is also an acclaimed film educator with 25 years of teaching experience, currently a Professor of Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Ga.

This jury offered variety in a number of fields and previewed the films to select those that showed diversity, content and cinematography excellence to earn an Arkhaios Award. From the daily screenings, Festival attendees will select the daily “Audience Favorite Film Award” winner.

Winners will be announced on Saturday after the last film is shown.

The 3-day event is free and open to the public. The program includes 17 films representing 9 countries and 15 cultures. Of the 17 films to be screened, 8 of the film producers or directors will be on hand in person to introduce their works, and 3 more will be on Skype.
