Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week, July 28 – August 3


As the Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival 2014 approaches, Georgetown and Beaufort counties, Hilton Head Island, Beaufort, Bluffton, Port Royal, and Charleston have proclaimed July 28 through Aug. 3 as “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week.”

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, will host events in the area throughout the week. De Gullah Root Experience Tour of St. Helena Island will include Penn Center, which was the first trade, agricultural, and normal school for freedmen.
