Heritage Library – Book Talk and Signing

Book Talk and Signing
Sunday, July 20, 2014; 2:00 pm

The Heritage Library presents author Thomas Thibeault, author of The Man Who Stole Himself, A Novel of the Civil War.

A slave steals a gunboat and escapes with his entire family. Robert Smalls boarded the Confederate gunboat Planter and steamed her under the guns of Fort Sumter to the blockading Union Navy and to freedom. Robert was a slave and he surrendered to Admiral Francis Du Pont, one of the wealthiest men in the country. Robert and Du Pont created a friendship of equality that destroyed the barriers of race, wealth, and class. When he escaped with the Planter, Robert became The Man Who Stole Himself.

Thomas was born in Canada, raised in Ireland, and now lives in Georgia with his wife, Anna. He has retired from a thirty-year teaching career that has taken him to Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and the Far East. Those travels involved working as a deck hand, soldier, truck driver in Africa, art model in Ireland, train brakeman in Canada, and a tour guide at the pyramids. Thomas brings a wealth of experience to writing which expresses our primal experiences. The Man Who Stole Himself is his second work. The first book is Balto’s Nose, A Novel of the Monument Men and Women, and he is busy writing his third.
