Meet the Author of

It was in Summerton that the first legal assault on segregation in public schools in the United States began with the case, Briggs v. Elliott. Harry Briggs is credited with being the first of his race to sign a petition for the equal rights of all people in America.

William Carson, the author, was born in Summerton and educated in the local schools.  After graduating from Clemson University he spent two years in the U. S. Army as an officer.  He and his wife have two daughters and live on Hilton Head Island where he is retired.


Light refreshments will be served.
