hi everyone,

I wanted to announce my new project at Armstrong, Digging Savannah, which engages students in solving the problem of archaeological site loss in Savannah. The project has three parts:

– Lecture series of four archaeologists speaking on the Armstrong campus. Our first speaker is next week and is our very own Rita Elliott.

– A smartphone app, “A Walking Tour of Savannah Archaeology” that will allow locals and tourists to explore the history beneath their feet (currently under development by Armstrong students).

– A campus visit of the Archaeobus, a former bookmobile outfitted with archaeology hands-on activities

The speakers for the lecture series:
January 24: Rita Elliott, “Savannah, What’s Under Your Feet?”
February 12: David Hurst Thomas, “Romance and Reality in Georgia’s Mythical Mission Past:How We Found the Lost Spanish Mission on St. Catherines Island”
March 27: Chris McCabe “Georgia’s Underwater Archaeology”
April 16: Lance Greene “Camp Lawton, Civil War POW Camp”
