Heritage Emergency National Task Force

April 20, 2012

The recent tornadoes to sweep across the Midwest proves that the time to prepare is now. In light of these devastating events and the approaching tornado season, The Heritage Emergency National Task Force would like to connect with your organization and other cultural institutions in historically tornado-active states to provide support and resources now and in the event of future disasters.

The Task Force, a partnership of 41 national service organizations and federal agencies created to protect cultural heritage from disaster, has a wealth of resources and information available to cultural institutions before, during, and after a major crisis. Visit our website to view resources aimed at helping museums, historical societies and sites, libraries, archives, and the public plan for the worst and cope with damage.

In the event of a major disaster in your area, the Task Force will assist in connecting response agencies to cultural heritage leaders. We will reach out to your institution — and hope you will do the same — to offer assistance and gather pertinent information about damage to your organization’s constituents. You may also report damages through our online reporting tool. This concerted information-gathering will enable national leaders to assess impact and ensure that cultural resources receive attention during the recovery process.

Sincerely,
Lori Foley
