Topic of June 27th “Dinner & a Lecture” is Altamaha


Next up in HBF’s  “Dinner and a Lecture” series is Dr. Eric Poplin.  He will discuss recent excavations at the site of Altamaha Town in Okatie and data recovery from digs at the Comabahee River on U.S. Hwy. 17.    Archaeological evidence indicates that Altamaha town was occupied from at least 1500 B.C. to 1715 and was home to 1200 – 1500 Yamasee Indians at the time of the outbreak of the Yamasee War.   Mon., June 27th, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the Verdier House, 801 Bay Street.  Fee.  For details or reservations call Historic Beaufort Foundation, 379-3331.
