BCHS Tour of Churches and Cemeteries on Dec. 5th

The Beaufort County Historical Society is celebrating their 70th Anniversary with a Tour of Churches on Saturday, December 5 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  The  tour will include volunteer docents at each of 8 historic churches and churchyards that are over 70 years old.
The ticket will serve as the map of this casual walking tour of the following churches: First African Baptist Church, Carteret Street United Methodist Church, The Parish Church of St. Helena, The Baptist Church of Beaufort, St. Peter’s Catholic Churchyard, First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort, Tabernacle Baptist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church.
Tickets at the Butterfly Shop on Bay Street in Downtown Beaufort or by calling call 843-785-2767. Adults are $20.00, Seniors and Students $15.00.

Oral History Workshop in Charleston Dec. 5th

The Citadel Oral History Program, the South Carolina Historical Society and the Low Country Oral History Alliance invite the public to participate in an oral history workshop on Saturday, December 5th from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at The Citadel in Bond Hall room 165.

Teachers, community activists, genealogists, and high school and college students are encouraged to attend. Space is limited and pre-registration is highly encouraged.

Your $5 donation will defray the cost of lunch.

This interactive workshop, led by staff from the SC Historical Society and The Citadel Oral History Program, will cover each aspect of the oral history process, including project planning, interview strategies, recording technology, and archiving. The program will be of value to those involved in family or community projects that are well underway and those in the planning stages.

Volunteers Needed for Bluffton Tour of Homes – Dec. 12th

The Bluffton Historical Preservation Society is looking for volunteers to assist with a tour of homes on Saturday, December 12th. Five historic homes and one contemporary home are scheduled for the tour which will take place from 12:30 – 5:30 pm.

There are two shifts: 12:30 – 3 pm and 3 – 5:30 pm. If you volunteer for one shift, you can tour the homes (at no charge) during the other.
