South Caroliniana Library wants to digitize SC newspapers, 1836 – 1922. Here’s how you can help Kate Boyd, the Digital Collections Librarian:
I am seeking letters of support for the South Caroliniana Library’s application for a National Endowment for the Humanities grant. The NEH’s National Digital Newspaper Program is a funding program that will create, at the Library of Congress, a national, online digital resource of historically significant newspapers in each state. The database will be created by scanning microfilm of selected newspapers published between 1836 and 1922. The South Caroliniana Library is working with the University Libraries’ Digital Collections Librarian to apply for the current phase, which focuses on the time period 1860 to 1922. We will be identifying South Carolina newspapers that meet the grant guidelines, and outsourcing the scanning of the microfilm.
If you are interested in providing a letter of support, please send it to Kate Boyd at the Thomas Cooper Library or via email at boydkf@mailbox.sc.edu by October 31.
